Interlibrary Loan allows the Library to supplement items owned with items
requested by users yet not held by the Library. Conversely, the Library will
appropriately lend locally owned materials to other authorized institutions.
Interlibrary loan enhances collection development by insuring as best possible
users can receive wanted materials in a timely fashion, whether local or borrowed.
Interlibrary loan borrowing is intended for those outside materials that have local
limited value, are of prohibitive cost, do not meet Library collection development
standards, cannot be purchased in a timely fashion or are otherwise unavailable or
unsuitable for purchase.
Lending is reciprocal. Red Feather Community Library, upon receipt of properly
placed requests through established channels will lend materials to authorized
agencies as determined through regional, state, and national agreements.
However, local materials in high demand, new or of limited availability, limited
access local history, rare items or of difficult-to-replace value, are physically
unable to withstand the wear and tear of transport or, as otherwise are determined
by the Library Director to be unsuitable for interlibrary loan may not be lent.
The Library will honor the varying codes of lending and borrowing agencies and
consortiums as defined through cooperative agreement.
The placing and handling of interlibrary loan requests is determined by the
Library’s Interlibrary Loan Handling Procedure.
