CHRISTMAS TREE HARVESTING
An Annual Tradition Returns to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests
Christmas tree harvesting has started again on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. Permits are available through Recreation.gov for $20/tree, and are valid through January 7, 2026.
Canyon Lakes Ranger District is largely open to dispersed cutting, with maps available on Recreation.gov showing closed areas. Poudre Wilderness Volunteers will be staffing information stations at Arrowhead Lodge in the Poudre Canyon and the Potbelly Restaurant in Red Feather Lakes Nov. 28-30 and December 6-7.
Cutting a Christmas tree is a family tradition for many Colorado residents, and also supports forest management. Be sure to read and follow all regulations listed on your permit. Purchase and print permits before heading out on your adventure, and display them clearly on your dashboard. Find safety tips and other advice for planning your trip on our website.
