Your Library Card

Library card applications are available at the library or online here.

All residents of Colorado (through the Colorado LCL program) and Library District residents & property owners are eligible for a Red Feather Lakes Community Library card. Outside of District applicants will need to pick up their card at the library.

There is no cost for your RFL library card and it only expires through lack of use.

A photo ID and proof of address are required and children younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian’s co-signature on the application. In co-signing for the card, the guardian or parent ‘holds the card’ until the applicant reaches 18 and thus takes responsibility for items checked out on that card or the item content.

Additionally, cards may be issued to families, visitors, or guardians of disabled or home-bound patrons of the library.

Please report a lost library card as soon as possible to minimize unauthorized use and so that we can issue a replacement.

With a few exceptions, all library materials may be checked out for 21 days.

With the exception of a first-time-checkout (following a card application), cardholders may have a maximum of 20 items checked out on their card at any one time. First-time checkouts are allowed up to 6 items.

The library does not charge overdue fines, but we do ask that you try and renew your materials if you will need them longer than the allotted time.

Finding Library materials: The Library Catalog

Search the AspenCat catalog to find or request books, DVDs, CDs, and other materials from Red Feather Lakes and libraries across Colorado.

Renewing Materials

Items borrowed on your RFL library card will automatically renew twice unless returned or there is a hold on the item. If there is a hold on an item you’ve borrowed, we recommend that you finish the item and then return it to the library so as to be available for the next individual.

Accessing Your Library Account Online

You have the ability to check your online account here. Your account will allow you to see what items you have currently borrowed, (optionally) have borrowed in the past, allow you to place holds on desired items, and note any messages sent by staff.

Your account is secured by your user name (your 14 digit library card number) and your PIN. Normally, the PIN is the last 4 digits of your designated phone number.

For assistance with your account or questions regarding items you have checked out, call 970-881-2664 or email help@redfeatherlibrary.org

Returning Materials

Library materials may be returned inside the library at the circulation desk or 24/7 in the book drop on the east side of the building.

Self-service bookdrops are located in Glacier View Meadows at Gate 8, and in the Mail Shed at Crystal Lakes Base Camp.

Items returned at the offsite bookdrops may take an extra 1-2 days to clear your account. We pick up from the bookdrop frequently, but there can be delays.

Items borrowed though AspenCat member libraries or SWIFT interlibrary loan will clear when received and checked-in at Red Feather Lakes Community Library.

Fines, Fees & Charges

The Library does not charge for overdue materials and most library services are free of charge, with some exceptions. Fees (or the lack of fee) is established by the Library Director and will be publicly posted in the library when instituted.

Office services are free for small quantities: 20 or under photo copies, 5 or less laminated documents, free fax use, free scanning, and free notary service.

Documents sent to us by email from your phone or tablet are printed free for 20 or under pages. Send your print items to rflprintout@gmail.com either forwarded or as email attachments. PDF documents work best, though other formats can often be printed.

Replacement costs for lost or damaged materials checked out to your card may be assessed.

Didn’t Find It?

Did you know books can be borrowed from other library systems for your use? Since 2008 Red Feather Lakes has participated in SWIFT, an interlibrary loan and courier service provided free of charge by Red Feather Lakes Community Library and the Colorado State Library. More than 300 public, academic, school, and special libraries from across Colorado are SWIFT members, which means greater access to books and other library materials for RFL Library cardholders.

Interlibrary loan requests can be made through the AspenCat discovery layer for AspenCat library and Prospector library holdings. Otherwise, contact us at 970-881-2664 or help@redfeatherlibrary.org for assistance.

Suggest a new book or other materials for the Red Feather Lakes Library collection. Submit a purchase request for our review and consideration.
