Gifts & Donations

Although the Library is tax supported, it is one of the smallest library districts in Colorado. Thus, the Library District relies on donations for 20-30 percent of our annual budget. Gifts of money, materials, and other charitable giving are welcome. This information is presented by the Friends of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library to answer your questions about different types of charitable gifts.

Money – The Library uses your gifts of money to purchase books, magazine, and other library materials and equipment. Donations are tax-deductible.

Materials – The Library welcomes and accepts donations of books and other materials, new or in good condition. Materials donations are considered for addition to the Library’s collection and are a welcome contribution for the Friends of the Library book sales. The Library also appreciates donations of office supplies such as ink cartridges, copy paper, envelopes and other supplies. Please contact us the library for details about what types of materials are useful. Note: the Library does not evaluate or appraise gift materials for tax purposes.

Memorial Donations – Memorials in the form of cash or other giving are a time-honored way of recognizing family, friends, and cherished community members. A Memorial Board in the Library is available with engraved plates for memorial gifts of over $25.

Securities and Real Estate – Gifts of securities or real estate often confer significant tax benefits on a donor. Contributions of appreciated assets held for over a year may be deductible at market value, and capital gains tax may be avoided through such a gift.

IRAs – Charitable gifts may be a way to minimize tax consequences resulting from required IRA distributions.

Bequests and Life Insurance – You can make the library a beneficiary in your will, or the beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy.

Matching Employer Contributions – Many businesses, corporations and organizations have matching gift or contribution programs that will double, and in some cases triple, individual contributions to a qualified nonprofit organization. Check with your employer to find out if they match your donations, and then contact us for our tax ID number

Get Advice on Library Giving – The information in this brochure is not intended to provide tax, legal or financial advice. We strongly encourage donors to seek counsel from their own legal and financial advisors. You and your financial advisor will need to discuss the best way for you to support the Library, so your gift will fit into your overall financial plan while at the same time helping the Red Feather Lakes Community Library.

If you have any questions, please call the Library at (970) 881-2664.  Your gift will help ensure a secure future for the Red Feather Lakes Community Library.
